The Evening Jumpsuit - And the winner is...

Mint Velvet!

For ages I have been banging on about wearing a jumpsuit to a 40th birthday party. A modern and stylish alternative to a little black dress, it is now a totally acceptable option for a wedding, ball or an evening event. Elegant and effortless, a smart jumpsuit is easy to throw on and so comfortable to wear.

A pair of heels and a great clutch are you all need for accessories - if the jumpsuit is a minimalist style with a simple V-neck, some classic jewellery can also look stunning. Don't make the mistake of piling on too many accessories as it could detract from the elegant look  - the jumpsuit itself is a statement.

It was quite a mission to find the perfect one, but this one from Mint Velvet ticked all the boxes - crepe material, cap sleeves, cinched in at the waist with a mock wrap front.

And here I am about to go to the party of my oldest friend - I have literally known her all my life, we are second cousins as well. Such a special evening and an amazing party!

Jumpsuit - Mint Velvet
Sandals - Dune (SS13)
Clutch - Guess
Gold Cuff Bracelet - Whistles

Also making its debut is this fabulous clutch bag from Guess, which my Mum bought me on her recent holiday. I love the touch of leopard on it and that it will go with everything:

And here are some other evening jumpsuits that made the short list:

This is one is beautifully understated, but not for me as I wanted a V-neck:

Reiss Button Back Jumpsuit £195

This strapless one from Hobbs is stunning and currently reduced:

Hobbs Black Invitation Etoile Jumpsuit £99 from £199

I loved the drapey material of this one from Phase Eight (although I would not have worn it with the necklace):

Phase Eight Ellie Jumpsuit £69 from £99

A friend told me about this one, so chic and I love the subtle pattern:

Warehouse Jacquard Peg Jumpsuit £58

And a classic black version from Wallis with a flattering V-neck:

Wallis Black Jumpsuit £44 from £55

And Mango has this fab sleeveless version with a detachable necklace:

Mango Detacahable Necklace Jumpsuit £59.99

And a similar style to my Mint Velvet one, also in crepe, at an amazing price:

New Look Black Crepe Short Sleeve Wrap Front Jumpsuit £24.99

So would you wear a jumpsuit to an evening event instead of a dress? As always, I love to hear your thoughts...

My lovely friend pointed out to me that it's my 40th next! Well, its a few months away, but I do need to start thinking. If you have turned 40, how did you celebrate? Looking for inspiration and obviously I will have to find the perfect outfit(s).
