Outfit Post: Midi Skirts

On Saturday we celebrated my Dad's 70th birthday at The Watch House Cafe on the beach in West Bay. (If you love seafood you should check it out, we had the most amazing fresh lobster). It was actually Part 1 of his birthday celebrations and was arranged so that he could mark the day with all his grandchildren. It was a very special day as my sister and family joined us and although it was a bit chilly, it was mainly sunny!

I was determined to wear a midi skirt that I've had  hanging in my wardrobe for a few months. It is this one from ASOS:

ASOS Midi Skirt in Painted Floral Print £35

It's the perfect midi skirt for lots of reasons:

- The shape is just right, not too voluminous, so easier to style/wear

- Perfect length

- Excellent price, I wouldn't want to pay too much for a midi skirt as I'm not sure how much I will wear it and the cheaper versions seem just as good as some of the more expensive ones

- The colours are perfect for wearing with black, grey or white. - I think I could even wear this into the autumn with tights and ankle boots?

Having said all of the above, it's actually quite hard to find tops to go with midi skirts. Most of the pictures on websites show models wearing them with crop tops (don't think so!). The best option is a shirt or a tee tucked in or a tee/knit that isn't too long and kind of sits on the waist. Tricky to find, but I have found one and here it is:

French Connection Summer Mozart Ribbed Jumper £49

It's a wonderfully light textured knit and was so perfect for a breezy lunch outside. Here is how I styled it:

I would normally wear midi skirts with a heel of some kind but I knew I would be walking/playing on the beach so the Birkenstocks were ideal. And the statement necklace is from Zara, borrowed from my mum.

There are so many midi skirts around at the moment. Here are some others that I like:

Also from ASOS, this gorgeous pleated midi skirt in a bright floral print would be lovely in mid summer:

ASOS Pleated Midi Skirt in Bright Floral Print £40

And in monochrome, always really easy to style:

ASOS Midi Skirt in Check Print £45

Another monochrome one, but pleated this time:

Black Colour Block Pleated Midi Skirt £38

And more for every day, I love this one in lightweight denim:

Warehouse Denim Midi Skirt £38

And a pretty crochet skirt, from Warehouse again:

Warehouse Crochet Midi Skirt £55

And I love the quilted material of this more voluminous black skirt from Topshop:

Topshop Diamond Jacquard Midi Skirt £48

And finishing with this stunning lace skirt from New Look:

New Look Cream Floral Lace Hem Skater Midi Skirt £39.99

So have you bought a midi skirt for the summer and how are you styling it? As always I love to hear from you!

  1. Fab skirt Abbi - love it styled with your white top and statement necklace. How gorgeous is the New Look one! I usually can't let anything with lace pass me by so that is my fave. The Watch House Cafe sounds fab, I am on the look out for a Fathers Day venue at the moment x
